Shark Diving Trips in the Maldives
Shark Diving Trips on Liveaboards in the Maldives
When you think about taking a shark diving trip, the Maldives might not be the first place you think of. Perhaps you’ll think more of South Africa, Australia or maybe California. If you’re looking for man-eating sharks, the Maldives is definitely not the best place for a shark diving trip, but if you simply crave the experience of swimming with a variety of some of the most beautiful sharks in the world, the Maldives could be an ideal choice for your next shark diving trip.
Varieties of Sharks to be seen on a Shark Diving Trip in the Maldives
When taking a shark diving trip to the Maldives, there is a wide selection of sharks that can be seen. The highlight of any diving trip to the Maldives is the enormous whale shark, the largest fish in the world. Whale sharks can reach lengths of up to 40 feet, although the most common are around 20 feet. Whale sharks are very impressive creatures to dive or snorkel with, and thanks to the fact that they are generally very friendly creatures, you don’t have to worry about shark attacks. During your shark diving trip to the Maldives, you can also expect to see grey reef sharks, white tip reef sharks and leopard sharks. Most of these sharks can be seen close to the reef at the many spectacular dive sites throughout the Maldives, except for the whale shark, which is most commonly seen in the open water around the Ari Atoll.
Planning a Shark Diving Trip to the Maldives
The best way to enjoy a shark diving trip to the Maldives is to book a liveaboard scuba diving holiday. A diving liveaboard holiday means you spend between 3 and 14 nights on a liveaboard boat, which travels around the Maldives, stopping at a selection of the best dive sites in the country. The sites you visit and the sharks you will see depend on the time of year at which you take your shark diving trip, but the climate of the Maldives means that you have great chances of seeing sharks at any time of year.
Shark Diving Trip Prices
Prices for liveaboard diving trips in the Maldives usually cost around USD $170 per person per night. This rate includes your accommodation, all meals and all dives. On the whole, most diving cruises include 2 or 3 dives each day. Equipment rental is not included in this price, and neither are alcoholic drinks, which are available from the bars on each of the liveaboards.
