Resolution on Women in the Military

As a result of the current pending legislative proposal, by the Congress of these United States, concerning the enforcement of women in military service, this General Assembly, though being relatively young in our existence, nevertheless, regrets the church's complicity in the cultural decline that has led to the consideration of compulsory military service for women. Therefore we repent, since we have insufficiently guarded our wives and daughters. We have likewise failed to faithfully preach the Biblical doctrines described herein, both to our own flocks, and to the watching world. We ask for God's grace to forgive us, and to strengthen us that we might show forth how godly churchmen protect the weaker vessels.

Be it Resolved, therefore, that the 2004 General Assembly of Reformed Presbyterian Church General Assembly, upon review of the Holy Scripture in both the Old and New Testaments, finds no biblical warrant for women serving in enforced military service, but on the contrary, finds that women are to be protected from enforced military service so that they might fulfill their calling and duties under God as set forth in the order of creation. Further, we maintain that the current Global War on Terrorism has forever blurred the distinction between combat and combat support units. Thus, women regardless of service component or unit affiliation are routinely engaged in active combat and as a result have been wounded or killed. Therefore, we maintain that women are not to serve in combat roles, especially in fields of deployment where combat zones include the total land areas in which terrorist activities are being conducted and every soldier is placed in immediate danger.
